POSITION SUMMARY
As a Digital Hardware Designer, you will assist in the design, integration, and verification of the baseband subsystem for BlackBerry handheld devices.
You will be a member of the wireless handheld hardware development team with the following responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of the detailed designs including design specifications, schematics, and layout.
- Development of design verification specifications, perform the verification, and write test reports.
- Troubleshoot failures and help drive them to resolution.
- Assist in the integration of other digital and analog subsystems such as high speed I/O\'s, sensors, memory, etc.
- Work closely with other key hardware teams including displays, camera, and RF.
- Interface with other teams to ensure the handheld is manufactured correctly including support to our high volume manufacturing sites.
Knowledge of low power hardware design including aspects of digital-related baseband components. The person will be required to be a team player, well organized, logical, have excellent communication skills and determined to succeed, with the ability to work on their own initiative and have the aptitude to expand the knowledge base in all aspects of hardware design.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
4+ Years of Relevant Experience; Bachelor\'s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Proficient in the use of modern laboratory equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, temperature chambers, power supplies, etc., and the automated control and monitoring of this equipment
Excellent hardware, system and software debugging skills
Understanding of overall system operation, including the interaction of hardware and software, and the requirements that these create
Experience creating component specifications and design schematics
Schematic creation using CAD tools
Experience writing design documentation, test specifications and test reports.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, responsibility and leadership in a team environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Strong multitasking skills with a team player orientation
Ability to quickly adapt to new situations and constraints
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
Experience with microprocessors , embedded memories, and highspeed digital interfaces such as MIPI and USB.
Working knowledge of ICX or other high speed PCB design simulation tools.
Experience within the wireless or telecommunications sector
Experience with the design and manufacture of handheld products

In this position, you will be part of the Research and Development team for design, testing and/or characterization, and development of antenna solutions for CDMA/GSM/UMTS/Bluetooth/WiFi/ and GPS. RESPONSIBILITIES
Will work in a team environment at all phases from concept design to final products
Will develop engineering prototypes for RIM\'s new products and work with Mechanical Designer, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Designer, Audio and Industrial Designer to optimize the antenna performance
Good understanding of electromagnetic and antenna fundamentals
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
BSEE minimum and MSEE preferred
5+ years experience with the design, prototype and test of mobile handset antennas
TRP/TIS/SAR optimization across a variety of devices
Knowledge of multiple-input, multiple-output operation in handsets
Experience with design and simulation tools: HFSS, Ansoft Designer, MATLAB
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Understanding of RF compliance requirements
Hands on skills for RF matching and antenna prototype development

The position will involve evaluating, defining and designing various layers of wireless protocol stack particularly L1, L2 RLC/MAC, PDCP and RRC. In addition, investigating and resolving integration and performance related issues for the CPU, DSP and mixed signal hardware using test equipment, logging devices and ICEs.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor, Masters or PhD in relevant subject
• Good communications skills and a team player
• Minimum 3 years experience in Protocol Stack and/or DSP design and development of current wireless technologies, EDGE/E-EDGE, HSDPA/HSUPA and LTE
